My brother is currently running an AMD 1.8GHz SC w/ 5700 Geforce.

He wants to build again, and he said if he does so, it will be a monster. I built a e6750/GTS/640gb/550w build yesterday on newegg for $1300 or so and he said that was cheap for a monster build. So his limit is probably $1600 or so...

He likes video games, not as much as me, but would love to play crysis. He does some video editing and dvd burning etc too.

What do you think of this build I have going here?

EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 = $516.99 - $30 MIR
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz = $319.99
Zalman 9700 110mm 2 Ball Copper = $59.99
MSI P6N SLI Platinum nForce 650i SLI = $149.99
4x 1GB WINTEC AMPX DDR2 800 = $179.98
Rosewill 550-2 2.01 550W = $55.99
SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series 500GB 7200 RPM 3.0Gb/s = $119.99
Antec Performance One P180 Silver = $129.99
Saitek Black Eclipse Keyboard = $44.99
2x LG 18X DVD-R Lightscribe Burners = $63.98

Total: $1,566.89

He will likely want to wait until AMD comes out with something new or the 9800s come out as well for the prices to drop. Anything overkill or not enough?

Thanks!

I think you should get a power supply with more amps, for that system. Like a Seasonic S12 550w, or a Corsair 520HX.

For $10 cheaper, just get the Tuniq 120, because it performs better.

Can I ask, why the P6N Platinum?

Also if he is waiting for the 9800 series, why not settle for an 8800GTS 320mb, to save you some money, for that upgrade.

Um. well, first, would he want to upgrade in a few months? If so, then he should get an 8800GTS for $280 or so. Second, a Tuniq Tower is much better than the Zalman. Third, you may as well not get the Q6600 because it's not as futureproof as you would think. With the new set of processors coming out next year, that processor will be blown away. I would suggest you getting an E6750. Next, get the Ds3r. It's a better mobo, but it doesn't have SLI. Your bro probably doesn't need 4 gigs of ram. For the Psu, i would get a cosair 620hx, for about 170, but it comes down to be 150 or so. The case is your choice.
Bigapple, you beat me...

He mentioned his bro doing some video editing, so 4GB will help in that area, but he will also need a 64-bit OS.

The Corsair 620HX is cheap at ZipZoomFly.com.

I chose the P6N because it has unlinked fsb/ram OCing. Which is a DREAM to work with...

So, with the GTS/3GB gskill/tuniq tower/e6750 that comes to 1300 shipped

That computer is a real monster. I would get it if I were you........

I personally think you are shortchanging yourself with the 650i board. With the latest bios revisions the 680i's have really come into their own. The P6N is way down the list on performance now. Not to mention it can't even touch the P35s.
