Applying AC5

In the instructions it says to put the grease in a small line like in one of the pictures shown. I was wondering if I should do that or is there a better/more effective way?

I heard putting a line down the middle, is affective. The most common though, is putting a rice grain sized dot in the middle, and letting the heatsink's weight spread it out, while seating it.

its funny, when i bought mine, the directions said to put it in a small dot at center. now, it says line down the middle. either way works fine, i suppose. just dont slop it all over.

I might try the grain-sized dot, I need to clean the only AS5 off for a new seating. I'm out of sterilizing pads, would something like rubbing alcohol and a coffee filter work?

I also have a feeling that the HS got damaged somehow and isn't staying as tight as it should.

coffee filter and high purity rubbing alcohol works fantastic, actually.

Okay, I've got some Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol 70%. Will that work?

It should work...90-99% is preferred, but 70% should do fine.
