I have a 1500 dollar spending limit with which to buy a laptop that will have microsoft word and powerpoint on it as well as a widescreen screen for playing high definition movies. The laptop must come from a major manufacturer such as dell, HP, Bestbuy, Gateway, etc. If the deal is over the net it must be from a well respected website. I'm mostly interested in getting the most bang for my buck in terms of raw power and will be using windowsxp so that 1 gig of ram will suffice.

This will be easily, has plenty of power, and will be good at gaming.
In fact, this is what im waiting for in the mail.

Buy any Laptop, but if you are going for Windows Vista, then please take a 1GB RAM or more, I bought one with 512 MB RAM (Microsoft says minimum hardware requirement) and I landed into a big trouble, my systems was so slow that it used to take 5 min to boot and show up the desktop page, until I upgraded it to 1 GB.

Nice find. I found the coupon but can't figure out what the orange text "Required for Blu-ray drive Expires Saturday, August 23, 2008" means.
