Monitor choice

I think I need a new monitor.

I would like to get a 24" if my system will drive it.

Dell Dimension 8200
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
P4 2.9

The ones that interest me the most are the Dell 24" and the Samsung 244T.

Will my system handle a 24"?

Which one would you suggest.

Use= gaming, office apps and Paintshop and photo shop.

Harry your card won't handle that big sorry. I'm assuming you have an AGP bus... you would have to upgrade your video card. Save up for a new system....

it'll display windows, but you'll be able to play solitaire and nothing else.

And even that is a little generous.

Yes it is an AGP

I don't want to do a new system until Penryn appears and if my monitor finally goes it's going to leave in a bind and a dilemma.

You could still pickup a nice budget pc that will give you the ability to use that monitor and still allow you to upgrade to Penryn when they are released and drop in price You could get a new system for <$1000 that will hold you over until you upgrade.

you could get it, plug it into the dvi output on your videocard and watch movies. you could also play FFIII on an emulator in AMAZING 8bit color glory. the low resolution would make it huge!

Why not just run games at a lower resolution...just because it has the ability doesnt meen you have to use it untill you upgrade your pc.

you shouldn't use monitors at resolutions lower then there native it can cause glitches such as ghosting or just poor image reproduction

thats never happened to me i gamed on a geforce 4 mx on a 1440 x 900 widescreen at 640 x 480 for many years
