I was wondering what was better in terms of price per performance the.

Radeon HD 2600XT 256MB
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100210L Radeon HD 2600XT 256MB 128-bit GDDR4 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

or

Radeon X1950XT
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100186L Radeon X1950XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 VIVO HDCP Video Card - Retail

I guess budget wise i'm willing to spend both, but of course the cheaper is better if it can do some decent performance.

What I'm mainly planning to do with it is just gaming. Like the typical C&C, Stalker, Fear, WOW, CS, and etc. I know that one main difference is the DX10 capabilities. Not really looking too much into this for when Crysis or Bioshock come out because I will probably plan on getting the new nVidia 9 series (or whatever they're called). This is mainly just for a pretty good one right now to hold me over. And to keep as a side spare when I build a new comp after the price cuts in July and the new nvidia gpu. Thanks.

if your just going to upgrade when the 9 series comes out i would get something cheap like the 7900GS that i believe you can get for about 100 bucks after a rebate or something
it will hold you off until the 9 series comes out

Look up reviews for the Radeon HD 2600XT, last I read they had some pretty HORRID reviews out there on the card and its lackluster performance. In fact I'm almost positive the previous ATI series cards beat them in a lot of tests.

Isn't the other 2600xt on newegg for about $106? Unless that specific card is crippled or something, it's just a matter of choice, whether you want to pay more for performance or to have a budget card. I'd get the 2600xt if you're gaming at 1280x1024 or under, the specs make it look really fast, but it doesn't really catch up with the competition, it could be a driver problem

only good HD 2k series card is the 2900 series... if u lookat the benchmarks even the 8600gt beats the lower end 2000 series, get the x1950xt and be happy :)

You can see here a recent benchmark done by techreport for HD2600XT
AMD's Radeon HD 2400 and 2600 series graphics processors - The Tech Report - Page 1

Even 8600GT beats it in most cases, and it cost $50 less in newegg
Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

Or you can get 8600GTS for the same price after MIR
Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N761-AR GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail

Of course X1950XT is the fastest video card out of those, but it needs a powerful PSU, and has noise and heat issues from what I heard. If you don't want to get X1950XT then get 8600GTS, both can completely destroy HD2600XT

The one that cost $150 is the GDDR4 version and the one that have GDDR3 cost $106

8600GT beats HD2600XT (GDDR4 version) in most cases, so there is doubt that that is going to easily beat GDDR3 version. And 8600GT is only $99 after MIR on newegg

the specs make it look really fast, but it doesn't really catch up with the competition, it could be a driver problem

The HD2600 has poor texture fill rate compared to 8600 series, thats why it doesn't perform very well. I don't think it is driver problem

However, HD2600 is good video card for multimedia, watching videos, ... but for gaming it is really a horrible video card.

i wouldnt say completley destroy but the 8600gts does come out ontop for most of the tests. and the x1950xtx is a great card for the price.
but if u really want a great card the 320mb 8800gts is a great gaming card. ok price i guess aswell
