winlogon.exe is using so much of the CPU, help me fix it!

its making this computer go darn slow. I'm afraid to run any anti-virus scan because the computer will then freeze. Keeps on freezing so i would have to either log off, log back on or reset the computer to fix it.

how do i fix this winlogon.exe problem?

disable any startup items under msconfig, except anti-virus.
