I noticed on Nvidia's website that they have a 128mb version of the 6800 for a measly $300 along with the pricier 256 meg 6800 and 6800 ultra. I've heard magazines and websites blow a load over how awesome the Ultra is, but I've heard nary a word of the 128 meg 6800. I was wondering if anyone knows any benchmarks or how the 128 meg 6800 compares with current high end cards like the 9800 pro/XT and FX 5950. I was going to upgrade my PC with a limited budget and wanted to know if it's worth setting down an extra $100 for a 128 meg 6800 instead of just $200 for a 9800 pro (i can't afford a 500 dollar card).

the amount of onboard memory a graphics card boasts isn't overly important. You'll hear people go on about how much better the 512Mb version of the 6800 will be than the 128 and 256 versions. The truth is, there is absolutely NO games that will utilise 512Mb. In fact, there are probably few that would utilise 256Mb. Maybe in a few years time, 256Mb will be the norm, but for now it is totally unneeded. The fact is, the 6800 will still hurt video cards like the 9800 Pro even if it only has 128Mb.

If your worried about it just set your vid card up to use 100 megs or so of your system ram (if you have enough).

X800 XT's are almost as good as 6800 ultras in benchmarks, but use less space (in the case) and prolly look better than the 6800's
I've only seen X800's in 256MB though

I'd say the 6800 will demolish the 9800 even with 128MB
