no vista is vista, and xp is xp.

xp is xp sp2 because it has had two service pk's come out for it to inprove bugs. no vista's first serivce pk wil be coming out to fix things and make it better

Lets say you just bought Vista and sp1 comes out is the update free? Or do you have to buy Vista all over again?

The update is free, of course. Microsoft is not that greedy.
