What are the difference between ATI Radean 9600XT 128 MB and Sapphire (sp?) 9600XT 128MB? Which one is better? Thanks

PNY wasnt good for me, GainWard I liked. For ATI stick to ATI, dont go for Sapphire, etc. I think the 4200 will suit you great.

what about a Radeon 9200/9600 or an FX 5600

Also I have a Chaintech GeForce III 128mb Gold Edition which I got off ebay for $60 USD and it runs every game I have pretty decent (C&C Generals, SOF II, Shogunn: Total War, Battlefield)

Must be a Ti500. Oh well, those are good buget cards too.

Hey, I wouldn't worry too much. The ti 4200 seems decent. Especially since you will be meeting the requirements for Perimeter:

Recommended Requirements:

Windows XP DirectX 9.0b Athlon XP 2000+ or above / Pentium 4 2Ghz or above 512Mb RAM Graphics Card: ATi Radeon 9500 and above, nVidia GeForce 4 (not MX) and above DirectX 9.0b Compatible Sound Card 950Mb Hard Drive Space (450Mb for game, 500Mb free after installation)

PS. I'm referring to the GeForce Ti4200 128MB, such as the one on E-Bay that you saw earlier. It's still up for grabs so I'd go for it if I were you!

Wow, I'm gone for a while and this thread grows considerably! :amazed:

I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'll have to buy privately off eBay etc. so this is where I've been concentrating my efforts. I've got a couple of Ti 4200 auctions I'm watching:

Inno Vision GeForce 4, Ti 4200, 128MB - Currently £30
MSI GeForce 4, Ti 4200 VTD 8X 128MB - Currently ~£27 from the States

as well as these:

Radeon 9700 Pro (128MB) - £41
XFX GeForce FX 5600, 256MB - £16! (nasty reserve on this one though)
PNY GeForce FX 5600 Ultra, 128MB - No bids yet but starts at £49.99, buy-it-now at £100!

Which would you go for?! Am I right in thinking the 5600 Ultra is probably the best card up there?

You're right KraghacK, my system just about scrapes through those specs :D

a 9600 pro outperforms a Ti4600, and a 9600 se does not cut memory in half, it is the same but with slower clock speeds as a 9600 pro. I know of people who have overclocked their se cards to pro specifications
I have nothing against the Ti4600, it is a great card, I'm just saying most people would prefer the ATI 9600's because they do run faster

what it would come down to in this case is their price; if a Ti4600 is half the price of a 9600 then by all means buy it as it does perform well for quite a lot of games
