I tryed to do this, when I got my new computer. Didn't work for me but maybe you know more.

Much easier to get an External HD.

No, but a device like PC-Link will enable file transfers via USB.

dam it... router file transfer is just tooo slow.... i got like 50GB of stuff i need.. from 1 PC to the other.

hook up the lan cable and let it go over night.... I know there is a direct connection wizard in windows, in the network connections, although i don't know if it supports usb. Might look for a open source of something like PC-Link.

or even better, if they are desktops, pull them apart and put all the hard drives in one machine, then you can transfer as fast as the hard drives can spew data. but make sure you set the jumpers correctly so that it boots from the correct drive, or you'll mess up the windows install on the one you have the data on. (since it will be trying to find the hard ware that isn't there and will start screwing with drivers)
