Is the AMD64 3000+ actually faster than a P4 3.0 Ghz?

umm no. ITs 2.0 ghz i believe. In a way i guess because of the fsb speed is twice. But in reality its not.

Well, you gotta define faster.

Plus, clock frequency doesn't nessesarily determine the speed of the work the processor does, if thats what he means...

ok an Athlon XP 2500+ that runs at 1.67GHZ can perform about as well as 2.5GHZ

the Athlon XP can complete more instructions per clock cycle than a Pentium 4 can; this also applies to Athlon 64's and most Mac processors

means that it performs as well if not better than an intel pentium 4 3.0ghz, (3000+). Clock speed may be lower but thats not everything.
