A nice place
I have an ATI x850XT 512, I am thinking about a nVidia 8600GT.

I found these on Newegg:

Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N755-TR GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Superclocked Video Card - Retail
EVGA

Newegg.com - XFX PVT84JU1D4 GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Fatal1ty Video Card - Retail
Fatal1ty

Both are about the same price, the Fatal1ty seems to have a higher factory overclock and memory. I like the heatpipe cooler on the Fatal1ty 8600GT, so that is my preference for the cards.

How much faster are these 8600GT over my ATI x850XT?

Anyone got experience which these 2 8600GT's?

it would be a noticeable upgrade but this card is faster. Forget DX10 right now since the 8600GT isn't powerful enough to think of playing DX10 games that well.

Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card - Retail

or shell out the extra 30 for one of these

The X1950XT will DEMOLISH your x850xt easily and it will manhandle the 8600GT and 7900GS easily as well.

Still back to the original topic the XFX 8600GT is ok and will be a good bit faster than your X850XT but not like the other two cards.

EDIT: nice try with the "i like the heatpipe" mr i own two Fatal1ty pieces of hardware lmao ;)

Personally, id get the XFX card, because they sometimes have higher clocks, and look pretty cool too. the prices may be a little higher, but either way, get one of them, if you low on money, get the cheaper of the two, if not then get the xfx. it should have more power than the current card that you have, but I don't know the ati~nvidia comparisons, I wish they were idiot proof like the older Intel~amd comparisons.

The standard XFX 8600gt for only 120 bucks will overclock to HIGHER speeds than the Fatal1ty factory clocked...don't ever buy superclocked anything if you can get a better card around that price. For instance if you are going to get the 8600GT Fatal1ty then an 8600GTS would be much faster around the same price. However I still say get the 7900GS, X1950PRO, or X1950XT becuase in the end after vista comes out those cards will kill the 8600GT in FPS....even if the 8 series gets the "awesome features of DX10"

I myself would rather have twice the FPS in a game rather than "less features"

8600GT is slightly faster than X850XT. You will see very small difference if you upgrade to 8600GT.

You should look at 8800GTS 320MB if you want to see a big difference.

i dont think there wold be much difference, but i might be wrong. i would say get the 1950 xt or 8800gts. i dont think u will see much difference in the 7900gs either. i might be wrong, but i use both the x850xt and 7900gs and they are not much different. i dont think it will perform same with others but in my experience, i almost get the same outcomes on the x850xt and 7900gs.

The X850XT is around the speed of a 7600GT which an 8600GT isn't much faster than. However a 7900GS is quite a bit faster than a 7600GT as well as an X850XT and an 8600GT (when overclocked)

oh well, i havent overclocked anything yet, i dont know how to overclock gpu's. but i was talking about factory settings on both cards and i dont seem to notice much difference, but there could be difference, it just may be i am too noob for noticing it

if ur goin to upgrade just make sure its worth it. there is no point in upgrading for little differance. so i would go the 8800gts 320mb or the x1950xtx
