Hey... one of my friends is building a new pc. I was just wondering if this looked like a good build to you guys. Let me know if you have any suggestions. He doesn't really want to spend more than $1,200 on it. Any advice would be appreciated.

looks good, but why not core 2 duo?

get am2+ board instead..... for the K10's series amd chips coming out in 1-4 months (its a whole new series of processors about 26 in all so they have staged release)

get a 4200x2 am2 cpu (theyre compatible with am2+ boards) to tide him over until crimbo and buy a new am2+ cpu

get a 8800gts 320mb instead or a 8800gtx

you need an operating system... windows/linux

if he's getting vista he may want to double up that ram for performance increase it is the optimum for vista precaching - 4gb

Yes get a Core 2 Duo with one of these boards:

And get this Grafix Card.

The MoBO is crossfire enabled, so you could get a secone in the furtre if u wanted to.

if you want immediate performance then go with the C2D if you want to take a gamble on the new amd chips then go AM2+

with C2D in your sort of budget e6420 or e6600 if you wait for the price drops then a q6600 possibly one of the newer e6x50
