PSU investigation

Random shutoffs, faulty equipment. Sparadic bluescreens... A dieing PSU can be VERY hazardous to all of your other equipment. What kind of symptoms are you having to ask?

Mostly hearing strange whining noises from the PSU, but levels out after it starts up. BUT, when it starts up, usually goes through everything until gets to desktop, but then shuts down, starts up, shuts down, etc.

PSU only 1 yr old...wondering if it just not enough Watts or if the daily startup/shutdown of the computer causes this. Have heard many diff theories about leaving the computer on all the time vs. shutting it down every time...

Thanks.

How many watts is your psu? From your sig it looks like you need atleast a 400w, I wouldn't go any lower than 450w though. Make sure the fan is running its not making yucky noises. I just replaced a PSU fan that was going bad for a client. If they die the heat from the psu can spill into the case making your cpu overheat and automatically shutdown.

Good choice on the new PSU.

Out of intrest, what was the make of the old one? Because the difference between a good make and a bad make can be years in lifetime.
