i just got a new XFX 8500GT and i play mostly starwars games but the card is ideling around 145degrees farenhieght is this norm

fahrenheit lol yeah that's normal if anything it is quite low my 8800GTS hits 70-80C. The 8500gt is designed for light gaming and htpc use so don't try and push it too hard as it isn't the best card for a gaming rig

but 80c jeez i would never let my vid card get that hot
and i sent the 8500 back and got a shiney new 8600gtsX2 for SLI
and they idol around 50c load 65c i still dont think this is normal

sli was a bad move should of gone with an 8800gtx better performance

Its all a matter of opinion. I have SLI cards and they work great.

sli give you a 40% increase in performance for 100% of the cost so unless its top of the range cards your combining I don't believe its a worthy cause especially as you can overclock the card for a 10-20% increase anyway from stock usually

Dont forget the extra power consumption .. Sli is justified only if youve got bucketloads of money and want the best of you happen to get one or both of the cards quite cheap.
