ok I went out and bought a new heat sink and a fan
the heat sink is made out of copper

It did impove but it still did not solve the problem
curently i have it set so that BIOS warns me when the processor reaches 60 celcius
normal temperature now is 55 celcius instead of 70-75
but once the temperature reaches 60..which it does I start getting the errors again.

my PSU came in with the case and is

80 gig hard drive and a DVD player

I am trully at a loss, I dont understand what is wrong wit this machine

btw I did put the thermal paste on the processor

perhaps its the bios settings here are a few

It looks ok to me let me know if you need anything else.
I hope somone can help me, Im about to take a hammer to this box.

If you are hitting 60C there is something wrong.

You need to get better cooling, you should rarely hit 50C even under extreme load (UT2004)

Well I found the problem
It seems to be a faulty processor.
I switched the processor with an AMD XP 2000+
and the computer is running at 35% with my new copper heat sink.
Im going to the store tomorow or the day after to exchange the processor for a new unit.

I wil update you guys when I make sure the system is running 100% ok

Ok, try updating your bios, i had a problem with a 3000+ Barton on a DFI Lameparty board. The kingston ram should not be a problem, go and get some decent thermal paste and apply it sparingly to the cpu. Then remount the hs/f and u should be sorted.

Btw 60c is not good at all. My Athlon running at 2400 Mhz isnt that hot. I think 57 degrees was the highest it ever went after 72hrs or Prime 95

I have updated my bios already,
Last night I have noticed another thing.
I have swithced the barton XP 3000+ processor
with an athlon XP 2000+ and
I have turned off the fans on my case to see the reaction of it.

results: The processor still heated up to 55 celsius which is way to much. I checked the RAM memmory and it was HOT! the heat sink of the processor was cold compared to the ram

I ran counter strike and when trying to join the server, it kicked me out informing me that my memmory is corupted, which might be considered a cheat.

Now the RAM works fine in my other computer, I have no problems with it.

So to me it looks like it might be a motherboard problem, not the processor. Any thoughts ?

If a new processor doesnt work then it's in your bios. I had this problem with my 2800 AMD. My bios had a antiburn regulator which shut off my pc when it got to hot. I forget what the setting was but it was really low. Also I've had that same problem when the processor itself was seated wrong.

well let me ask this diferently.

Is it posible that a processor is mailfunconing if is not stabile at its full speed that it was designed for. but works normaly on a reduced speed?

If anyone could anwser this question, It would help alot.

Oook here we go, many of you where on the right track asking about ram.

It turns out slot 2,3, and 4 on my botherboard are broken.
took one stick out of the second ram slot and system worked fine.

switched the sticks to see if its a bad stick....nope runs perfect.

exchanged the motherboard and now the machine runs like a dream.

It is not overheating and its very staible now.

wooohhooo im happy now.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help out
