Sata or USB ?

Hey everyone!! new to the forums

My neighbour has given me an external WD 320gb sata hdd which has usb 2. I currently have a 250gb seagate IDE hdd with windows, and i want to start using me new hdd my question is would the data transfer speed be significantly slower if i used it in the through usb or am i better off hooking it up and use sata ?

Just use the USB drive as a backup, dont take it apart just for the extra 320gb, 250gb is enough and the speeds aren't that bad

as funny as this might sound but ive never had a sata hdd just upgraded my computer so my motherboard now supports sata is the speed of sata compared to ide that much ??

fastest ide and slowest sata are relatively the same
