Heat constraints likely make it impractical for Nvidia to release a mobile version of its G80 graphics processor, but the company is nevertheless climbing the performance ladder in its mobile GeForce 8M lineup. After introducing GeForce 8400M and 8600M graphics modules just over a month ago, Nvidia is now back with a GeForce 8700M GT. Nvidia boasts that the new graphics module "extends the award-winning GeForce 8M Series product line to include high-performance notebooks," although it doesn't mention specifications and hasn't yet added the new product to its GeForce 8M Series page.

Still, Nvidia's press release quotes Toshiba's General Manager of PC Product Planning as saying Toshiba is the first notebook vendor to offer the GeForce 8700M GT in its machines. The new GPU is available in Toshiba's Satellite notebooks and is also on track to hit mobile systems from other vendors, including Sager, Prostar, Eurocom, Biohazard, Connoiseur, Cybersystem, Hypersonic, MALIBAL, Multirama, rock, Evesham, Falcon Northwest, Plaisio, XS2, Nexoc, Hyrican, Vigor Gaming, Voodoo PC, and "many others."
