I was looking at a couple of places online to buy a nice computer for around
$1000. The one I built online would have 2 Geforce 8500GT cards. Would it be worth it to shell out another $200 for a Geforce 8800 instead, or would the 2 8500's be sufficent enough to carry me for a while for my gaming needs, (like Guild Wars, CS:S, ect). Thx, and if anyone has any experience with the 8500's that would be great.

The 8500GTs suck for gaming. The 8800GTS would be way better. Although the 8500GT would suffice for CSS and Guild Wars.

CSS and guild wars are VERY VERY easy games to run at high frames a second, any of the 8 series would suffice, however i would strongly suggest that you shell out for the 8800, 8500s suck and those 2 games arent the only thing you will ever play.

I was just listing the games I currently play. But that in no way is what I want to judge performance on (I can run both at high settings now with a P4 and a 6600GT). I definitly want this new computer to stand the test of time, and be able to carry me to say GW2 (in about 2 years) or anything else I would want to play. Thx for the replies.

A 8600GTS or even an 8600GT is faster than 8500's in SLI I believe. Yes, it's worth it to shell out for the 8800

an 8500gt has 16 shaders, 8800gts has 96, and the gtx has 128...you do the math....

(it worth it)

8800GTS is at least 4 times faster than 8500GT

And remember that SLI doesn't give twice the performance. You need to have about 8 8500's in octo-SLI in order to get a performance similar to 8800GTS

an 8500gt is like a 7300le of the 8 series. its not going ne where in the gaming world. any 8800 will kill 2 of those things

Yea....the 8500GT is more of a media card. Although I've read that it has better decoding capabilities.
