Hello,

My Samsung CD/RW drive has suddenly stopped working, I have done a firmware upgrade and it said 'upgrade failed' and now the drive won't even eject. I have been using it about two years with no problems whatsoever...I am using a P4 1.4GHZ with 640MB ram and a 256MB graphics card. In device manager it is detected and says that 'this device is working properly'. But as I said it won't even eject.

Anyone got any ideas,

thanks.

the problems lies in the part where you decided to reflash a good drive. the rom on the dvd is probaly corrupted

Most likely it's time for it to retire. But you can try some testing to insure that it's time to get a new drive. First swap to another computer if you can, check and swap the IDE data cable, make sure the 4pin molex has power. You can use the emergency eject button to recover your CD if you have to, it's a small hole about the side of a paper clip tip. Most CD burner cost no more than $15-20, you might as well get a CD/DVD combo drive for that price.

i like laws idea, i got a dual layer sony dvdrw drive for £20
