Expert Opinion Needed Graphics Card

i have been stuck on choosing two graphics the Nvidia 8600GTS 256mb and the Nvidia 8800GTS 320mb. I am not sure if the Nvidia 8600GTS would be able to handle resolutions of 1680 x 1050 for moderate gaming on vista? also thats why i am leaning towards the 8800GTS because it easily supports games at that resolution. but the 8800GTS also streches my budget by quite a bit and the 8600GTS fits in perfectly.

So can you please tell me if the 8600GTS would be perform good at the resolution of 1680 x 1050 with gaming and vista or do i need to get 8800GTS to enjoy a moderate gaming and vista on the widescreen??

The 8600GTS would struggle at that resolution, with the new games. Definitely go for the 8800GTS 320mb.

The 8600GT is great for people with smaller screens, like myself, as I have a 17" LCD, and I can't go over 1280x1024. It really does perform decent at those resolutions.

However, if you're going with higher resolutions such as the one you mentioned, I really would go with the 8800GTS.

ya if u use... a 19 inch widescreen or less, time to get a 320 mb gts (8800) otherwise any higher u stepup to a 640, but 1280 1024 is a more resolution for a 8600gts

ok man heres the deal, if u want "moderate" gaming go with the 8600 thats what i have right now. I have vista 2.4 ghz duo 2 gigs corsair 22inch moniter etc and i get 40-50 fps on bf 2142 at absolute max settings i get 25 or lower on supreme commander. it really depends do you want the best of the best? if so the 8800 is a must if you are content with this years and last years games and dont plan to do any seriously demanding gaming then get the 8600 to tell you the truth i thought the 86 was ok for me but now im getting the 8800 gtx its up to you. and yes it does run games relativly well in 1680 x 1050

Get the 8800. The 8600 isn't very good for gaming despite it's higher cost. A similarly priced DX9 card would give you better performance. Besides, the 8800 is only a little more and it'll spank the 8600.
