since we are trying to cut costs as much as possible, we will use 512mb( 2x256) of pc 133 memory I already have this. and this motherboard
Gigabyte 7ZMMH Socket A VIA KM133A

we don't have much money to spend on it. maybe a $100 or so (USD) we have an old WD 2800 HD. yup, and 8 GB hard drive, with 5 being used by ut lol. We have my case and PSU that i bought last september, we have a cd rom, and avideo card for it. do you guys think that is good for a server? ( remember, this is for a lan setup, no internet for this thing)

why do you want a gateway?? just get a switch
If you are not going to be connecting to the internet just spend $50 on a good switch/router instead of spending three times as much on a box thats just going to sit there serving little to no purpose.

ok, maybe i didn't fully explain it right, we want a dedicated server to run UT , since it is mush easier than having one of us host it. I was hoping someone with experience with servers would be able to tell me if that is good for a server, since we are trying to cut costs ( we don't have much money to spend on it)

Well since the server will actually be hosting the game, and talking back and fourth to multiple servers, you really want pc133? A server doesn't have to be fast by any means, but you need to realize the work that will be involved that the server is going to have to handle..
