there is only one 3.5" hdd that has 1tb storage which is the hitachi^^^^^ there are only two companies that make hdd's larger then 500gb!!! What you have seen in an external solution is a 2x500gb in raid0 configuration this makes both drives work in unison with the data striped between them it is cheaper to buy 2x500gb then one hitachi and the performance is better. I have 1.32tb in my computer and 6.75tb in my server

From what I have heard the Hitachi one run's HOT & LOUD . I would go with the cheaper option of getting 2 500gig HD's and running them together.

Yea, two Samsung spinpoint 500GBs for like $230.

it runs hot but not loud from the reviews I have seen........ It also is pretty rapid for such a large capacity not quite the same as dual 500gb in raid0 but close

Still I don't care much if they run hot and loud I am still going to get a few for my next build. I plan one supper rig and I need all the storage I can get and I am hoping to build a server in the near future.
