The Pentium is the way to go. It should handle AOEII and Q2 just fine.

i think that 450 mhz pentium is really P3 NOT P2, but either way P3 is better..

There are Pentium 2 that have clock speed of 600MHz

The Celeron is at 600MHZ, and is in Socket 370, so I'd probably choose that.
Earlier Celerons were not far off their Pentium counterparts, clock for clock.
Plus, you could even upgrade to a Coppermine Pentium 3 if you wanted.

Slot A was for early Athlon's

I'd get the Celeron. You can still get a good PCI card if the board doesn't have AGP. Those games will run fine on either system.
