HI guys , im using a dvd reader on my Pc and i used to be able to watch DVD, open dvd discs etc... liteonit

but now, it seemed to have lost its power...
well, whenever i put a dvd inside it, it takes a while to read and nothing happens

when i enter the disc via MyComputer or any explorers, its blank, i cant see anything, its like i never inserted a disc, what has gone wrong ?

edit-
i still can read and write normal discs
just anything except DVD

whats IDE?

i have 2 cd-rom, one is just a RW cd burner, another is my dvd reader

for my rw cd burner, there is nth wrong with it except that it sometimes freeze the whole pc , well i nvr use that drive so i dont mind

the problem w/ my dvd reader is it reads and burns normal cd but does not even read dvd discs

IDE is a type of connection/cable it is like a large ribbon generally grey when stock and it connects the harddrives, optical drives and floppy drive to the motherboard. IDE is old and has been replaced by the smaller and faster sata which has faster transfer rates and a smaller cable for air management

how old is the dvd drive?

sounds like the dvd laser might have failed.

in a drive like that , there are two lasers. one for cds and one for dvds.

you might need a new dvd drive. they are pretty cheap now at least
