probably not very much because like someone above me said it's the top end P4 meaning Intel is having trouble getting a higher clock speed that is stable without EXTREME cooling. maybe 3.5 or 3.6?

But when you have that kind of chip...wtf do you need an overclock for...(i ask this when i myself overclock, its not like i can tell a difference)

you'd have to overclock the Athlon XP Barton's and Athlon 64 non FX's by changing the FSB

I am competing with a friend about who can build the best PC for the money

- we are both getting Athlon 64 3400+'s, Radeon x800's, a gig of Corsair TwinX RAM (2x512mb) with timings 2,2,2,5 and 2 HDD's of total 280GB, one dedicated to the OS

- he is planning on spending $4000 and I am planning on spending $3000 (both in aussie dollars)

what's the difference?

he is getting a water cooler and more expensive case
he hopes he can overclock like hell

will it make much difference to overclockability? probbably not!
- remember, gaining stability is more than just reducing heat

even if he got the extra 10fps in counterstrike, would it be enough to justify a $1000 price difference?

my conclusion: it probbably would be possible to overclock it, but you would pay a lot more for it in price (cooling, extra CPU's if you kill any) and/or stability
