I'm looking at two CPUs, a Pentium D 925 Presler and an Intel Core 2 Duo E43000. The Presler has just gone down in price, while the Core 2 is about $25 more.

The Presler is rated 3.0 G while the Core 2 is 1.8G. They seem very similar so why is the Core 2 more expensive?

You cannot compare clock speed as each architecture is different with the Core 2 Duo's being much better. The E4300 will destroy a Pentium D...especially after being overclocked to around 3.0ghz.

Pentium D's have trouble keeping up with Athlon X2's which have trouble keeping up with the Core 2 Duos....

Got the Core 2 Duo, it was only $25 more. Just wanted to be sure more expensive was better in this case.

Pros and Cons of Pentium D
Pros:
- higher clock speed
- more cache if ur looking at the e6300, e6400 and e4300 and e4400 (these two factors don't make much of an edge over c2d)
- 65 nm (but this is also in core 2 duo)

Cons:
- runs hot
- if u get a SmithField processor (not 900 series) u get 90 nm
- not as overclockable as Core2 Duo
- Netburst Architecture not favored in games
- Not as efficient as Core 2 Duo
- Power Consuming....
- The EE version is pricier than the Core 2 Duo and is wayyyyyyyy slower
- Not worth it when the higher-end 900 series are more expensive than most Core 2 Duos and not as powerful
- Can't even fight x2 processors let alone the Core 2 Duo....
