FORMAT problem

I decided to reformat my comp because of the virus the computer kept running slower and slower very delayed.. anyway I have a burnt version of windows xp pro corporate edition and when I used it to boot up first my comp detected it fine and everything so I went through deleted my existing partition, created a new one (on both HD, I have 2) then formatted the C drive my primary HD NTFS or something.. not the quick one. Anyway I left the comp at 12% then came back about an hour later and the screen was black and it said "DISK BOOT FAILURE - INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" ---- Now the thing isnt reading the disc properly and wont work. I have a legit version on XP home but i lost the cd key.. anyway I tried to use that, it got me as far as the beginning of setup then couldnt continue because of some missing files error. What should I do? get a new copy of windows or can i reformat and try again? why would it detect this disc before and not now???

Sounds like the corp edition is specialised for certain computers and hence could not boot from hard drive. As for your missing file I had that problem googled it and solved it

Hmm not sure how i could fix the problem besides wipe the dust off the disc then keep trying, I might have to buy new disc... might get vista but its a hassle and i think watse of money for now and xp pro is still around $180

I think my comp can handle Vista but i dont want it.

Finally got xp home to install but when i boot it says "BOOT DISC FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER" even when the windows disc is inserted it wont get past that, and when i change the BIOS to boot from CD it goes back to the format process... dont know whats going on. At the moment its got boot up as hard drive, cd then floppy. this is annoying.

What files were missing? Can you get to the repair console and fix what's bad? Like Silverlord said, your corp. edition probably is machine specific, imaged from one the corporate guys built to their specs so it probably will not work unless you get a similar machine. I have had similar problems and sometimes cleaning the CD fixed it, sometimes I had to swap the CD drive. My copy of XP Pro is very old and not in primo condition anymore.

Edit: just saw the last post you made. Try the repair console and do chkdsk /r

prolly your cd drive is going bad, or a loose cable inside the case(this has happened to me before i forgot to secure the ide cable and it kept messing up) or maybe you got a bad disc, or burned it wrong i also have a copy of corp xp it is a perfect cd no scratches but it wont install because i forgot to burn it as raw-dao, so i made a different copy of it and it works

After formatting again I got windows xp home to install but now it wont boot without the cd i just get that same error message "BOOT DISC FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER" when i try and boot windows from the HD.. not sure why but windows will not start without the original disc in there. And yes maybe my cd-rom is playing up because it takes a long time to detect any discs, now im not sure if its bad memory sector on my hdd or not.. if anyone has a solution please let me know. im going to format again soon.

try using a diffirent cdrom and make sureyour cable works/connected properly, also try to reburn the xp cd if you can

Thanks for all your help and support - the problem was some confusion because I have 2 HDDs. I only managed to install xp home and I've lost my cd key, had to flog one off torrent to get through installation but activation is the new problem. I might call microsoft and get a new cd-key tomorrow, but if they want to charge me i'll burn a fresh copy of xp pro corporate edition and upgrade. Is this a good or bad idea, will it make windows unstable if I made this upgrade?
