Recently, my friend put together a new computer. While putting in the DVD drive he accidentally connected it to the power supply while the computer was on.

It created a spark and we could smell something funny. The DVD drive wouldn't work after that.

So we connected it to another power supply cord and it started working again.

We tried booting Windows XP but it wouldn't read the disc despite that we made the DVD drive the first thing to boot. We checked the IDE cable everything was in correctly

Something came up that said O.D.D.O we have no idea what that means. After that it said something about rebooting or installing initial boot drive.

We just can't figure it out. Can someone help?

Thanks.

Would replacing the PSU lead work?

Or maybe replacing the DVD drive itself?
