hey i have an old pentium 4 running at 1.8 ghz, i have a 256mb vga and 1 gb memory, i can play half life 2 source and dod:source but only at 20 to 30 fps with 1024x768, i was wondering if i could get my pentium to around 2.2 to 2.4 ghz without buying any extra fans or what not?and even if i do get it that high will i see a performance boost in my games? also how the **** do i overclock, do i need some extra software or can i do it without buying any software? and just overall how do i do it?

You don't need software to overclock, because overclocking the CPU is done in the BIOS. But you do need software, such as Prime95 or Orthos, to test for stability. You won't get a huge jump in performance, but it might get you a few more frames. What will get you more frames, is upgrading the graphic card. What is your graphic card?

256 mb radeon X1300 agp 4x format, ddr2 memory,Core Clock in MHz 594 MHz, Memory Clock in MHz 396 MHz

You can get a 7600GT for that price.

nevermind...that was for PCI-e...AGPs are pricier now.
