Anyways to answer your more recent question and to resolve your problem.
Right click on your desktop and select Personalize.
Then navigate your cursor to Window Color and Appearance.
On the Window Color and Appearance screen towards the bottom click "Open classic appearance properties for more color options."
Under Color Scheme select Windows Aero. Then click apply then click OK to close that window.
ALT+TAB should give you a preview of the windows instead of an icon now.
You'll also be able to set window transparency now.
