I was under the impression that SCSI hard drives were the fastest, but recent stats I've read make this seem untrue.

IS an SATA hard drive faster than an SCSI one?

Been researching for a few hours, seems that the best SATA reaches up to 300mb/s while the best SCSI reaches 320 mb/s. A very small difference. However, I believe only newer MBs will support 300 for satas while the scsi controllers are used in pci slots, so it wouldn't matter what mb you have.

I'll have to figure out which SATA my mb supports to make the final decision.

If anyone is looking for an SCSI hd here is the one I'm considering buying:

or the smaller one for cheaper:

SCSI hard drives are more for Enterprise applications where they will be in almost constant use. IMO, they are WAY to expensive to even CONSIDER in a SOHO environment, SATA is the way to go.

SCSI disks also have the highest RPM's, up to 15,000. SATA's highest is the 10,000 WD Raptor, and I believe IDE is only 7,200.
