8600GT and 8500GT out today on newegg!!!!

why isn't the x1900 series in the DX10 Line, it out performs the other 8 series geforce cards (well below 8800 anyways) so does that mean if i use it on say a DX10 game a comes out in a year or so would it not be supported, even though it outperforms the other games?

It WILL be supported....but think about it, it doesn't utilize DX10...so yes it would play DX10 games well, but, not as well, and wont look as good as say a DX10 8800GTS/GTX....
 
hrmm... did we all forget about new dx10 powers... once dx10 is put to use.. these cards will obliterate any 7 series cards... i read a huge article not too long ago... and its got some new way of rendering things.. based on 1 figure, or something like that.. it will be able to draw 1000's of figures just as easy as 1.... and with quantum physics..... just wait til dx10 is in play.. these cards will shine and own any 7 series out... were basing this all on dx9 bases... kinda stupid if you ask me....
 
The thing i don't get is why nvidia made such a big difference between these new cards and the high-end G80's.

Look at the 7600gt and 7800gtx. The 7600gt has 12 pipelines and the 7800gtx has 24 pipe lines (1/2 the power). The 8600's have 32 stream processors and the 8800gtx has 128 stream processors (1/4 the power 0.0).
 
I'm pretty sure the 8600's have 64 streams while the 8500 is the one with the 32...

No 8600GT/GTS has 32 streams, and 8500 has 16

In shader-intensive games like STALKER and oblivion the 8600GTS can outperform X1950pro and even 7950GT.

Since most of the future games are shader-intensive then I assume that 8600GTS would be much better than X1950pro in future games

In the current games, 8600GTS is on par with X1950pro

8600GT is slightly slower than 7900GS in most games

Until now there is no benchmark test for 8500GT, but I assume that 8500GT will be slightly faster than 7300GT, and it might perform on par with 7600GS

Remember that pipelines and stream processors is not everything.

I pretty sure that the difference between 8600GTS and 8800GTX is like the difference between 7600GT and 7900GTX
 
The 8600GTS also has higher clockspeeds and pixel pipelines and now streams aren't everything. The 8800GTS does not give you 4 times the frames as a GTS does..maybe 2 1/2 or so.

Actually if you look the 8600GT is faster when no AA is used. On average if there was no AA the 8600GT beats it...however the 7900GS overclocks like mad.

The GTS going by those is on par with the X1950PRO which is on par with the 7900GS overclocked.
 
Yes but im not comparing a stream processor gpu with a pipe line gpu. They are different, but everything else is still the same (core clock, mem size, mem width, etc.). So 12 pipelines/24 pipelines = 1/2 power and 32 stream processors/128 stream processors = 1/4 power (apples with apples and oranges with oranges :p).

The only reason this wouldn't be true is if the more stream processors you added, the less power you get out of them. So until someone proves that, then im not going to call these cards mid-range; instead, im calling them quart-range :p.

If you look at the benchmarks, the 320MB 8800GTS get less than 2 times the frames as a 8600GTS

But I think that the 640MB version can get more than 2 times the frames in high resolution.
