SLI may actually be worth going for if SLI on these is good as they are low watt.

They still probably cant beat an 8800GTX though in SLI which will be going down in price soon. The 8600GTS is pretty much around the speed of a 7950GT probably which is an ok card but not super fast either as the X1950XT beats it out.

We'll just see if it is worth going SLI for or not.

I don't think that 8600GTS in SLI can beat 8800GTX

Anyway, 8800GTX performs slightly slower or in par with two X1950xtx in most games. In Tomb raider Legend, even 8800GTS can beat X1950xtx in crossfire.

Have anyone saw the benchmarks in the Anandtec
AnandTech: DX10 for the Masses: NVIDIA 8600 and 8500 Series Launch

The only game the 8600GTS outperforms 7950GT is oblivion

I agree....theres no way an 8600GTS will out perform a 7900GTX. But im still thinking about getting one.....then SLI this summer....should run DX10 games great.

But then if you look at the price to performance ratio of the 8600GTS compared to the 7900GTX, the 8600 wins hands down. According to the benchmarks (link) the 8600GTS and the 7900GTX are not too far apart in terms of performance.

By looking at those benchmarks the 8600GTS is about as fast as the 7900GS overclocked.

I would say the 7900GS would actually perform better in DX10 games

How so?? the 7900gs may be a good card but its not DX10 compatible...shouldnt the 8600 perform better in say crysis and the such.

DX10 is quicker the DX9, theoretically achieveing slightly higher settings with a lower powerd card whilst maintaining the same frame rate as in DX9. Meaning Although a 8600GTS and X1950Pro are very equal performance wise, the 8600GTS is the same price, and DX10 compatible so you would be able to slightly raise the setting in DX10. It MIGHT be a good investment for me and others, who need performance in Dx10 games without busting $$$.

I would expect the following DX9 Cards a 7900GS/X1950Pro to 7900GT/X1950XT to have quite a drop in price, as the 8600GTS is equal in performance, renders DX10, and is the same price.
