Iv had a dvd rom drive in my pc since I bought last year and has worked fine until recently I bought a dvd r/w aswell. Once I installed the r/w my pc has been acting up.

Windows takes ages to load and neither drives read the disks I put in them, and dont even show up in 'My Computer'. Iv tried going back inside and making sure there fully plugged in but still no change. They both have power as the drives open when I hit the eject button but they just wont read. The drives are both on the same IDE cable with dvd-rom as primary, and the r/w as secondary. Then the cable is plugged into my mobo's primary IDE slot. I had this setup before with a standard cd-r/w and it worked fine

Anyone help me out?

Are they showing up in your bios? If they are check device manager in windows to see if they show up there. That could give you a clue.

Can you boot from a CD?

Try a new IDE cable.

Try setting em both to cable Select (Never heard of them HAVING to be on CS, but hey, can't hurt to try.)

Try the secondary IDE slot on your motherboard.

If you disconnect the new drive, does the old one start working properly again?
