From the logitech forum, people complain that the Z series breaks down easily. People complain that it only last them 3months to 2 years.

I've had mine for close to 2.5 years and they sound just as good as the day I got them. They've been moved around quite a bit too, especially since coming up to college. They have a 2 year warranty on them, all you have to do is send back the control console, and they send you a WHOLE new set, someone on my floor did that when his made a popping sound. They pay for shipping both ways too, talk about great customer service. You can run in to problems if you turn the system off with the control pod still on, and it makes a loud pop, so it should be obvious that's not the right way to turn it off, and the manual warns you...but people are dumb, so I'm going to say it's user error for a lot of the problems with them.
