Okay i have a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard which happens to have a heatsink and fan on the chipset. Recently a strange (and loud) whirring noise was coming from my comp and upon investigation i found out it was my chipset fan. I tried cleaning it thoroughly (had a some dust on it) and after putting it back on it was still making that noise.

I unplugged the fan from the motherboard and am running it without the fan as i write this message.

Is this going to be detrimental to my chipset? Not many motherboards have fans on the chipsets so im wondering if just the heatsink would cut it.

Also is there any programs that will let me monitor the temp of my chipset to make sure its all okay??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the chipset wouldnt so fast getting hot whether got fan or not. So, noneed to worry.
