I'm sort of in a dilemma.. With the rather disappointing 8600GTS, I've been thinking about just getting a 7 series once they drop a bit. I bet I could get something like a 7950GT for $150 or so in a month which beats out the 8600GTS which MSRPs at $200. I don't think the 8600GTS will be able to handle the new games with DX10 enough that the DX10 features are even worth it although I'm not basing that on too many facts. The only thing really is the extra heat, power usage I would have to go through. Anyways, what'd you think? Give up DX10 for more power and save some money or just go for the 8600GTS? Also, take into account that I will probably upgrade it again sometime in ~1.5 years and that I don't game all that much.

"Performance for the 8600GTS is expected to be roughly on the GeForce 7900GT level, of course with full DirectX 10 compatibility which the GeForce 7900GT lacks."
I dont see the 7950GT going down to $150 in a month or so. Even today, the 7900GS is still at minimum $150 brand new on Newegg, tech prices dont drop that fast.

You can get them for $185 right now... $160 at least would certainly be possible by the end of the month.. That quote is old.. And you did everything but give me your opinion on my question =/.

The 8600GTS will perform very close to say a 7900GT I believe which isnt enough for new games.

If you want to get a DX9 card that will be very powerful...look at the X1950XT which in incredibly powerful for only 200 bucks. it blows a 7950GT out of the water at every standard res even only having 256mb memory.

No one can say for sure how it will perform but It has been speculate with 64 Pipelines in the 8600GTS compared to the 96 in an 8800GTS it can be speculated that the speed will be very similar to a 7900GS overclocked.

if u want one now, try Dynamism they have everything that hasn't been released to US but the things released elsewhere. I got my LG Shine from here :).

Looking at those benchmarks....the X1950XT would destroy the 8600GTS in DX9 and for sure 10.

The X1950XT is only a little bit slower than the 8800GTS and you can get one for 199 right now.

you would think that an X1950XT would be DX10 card b/c it owns the 8600 GTS even if the GTS is overclocked, do those sites have DX 10 scores?

Of coarse it would. Didn't you see on average an overclocked 8600GTS had a hard time competing with even a 7950GT? The 7950GT is completely destroyed on every benchmark by an X1950XT....the only cards more powerful are the X1950XTX and the 8800 cards.
