I have a PC that has an "illegal" copy of XP Pro currently running on it.

I want to legally upgrade it and at the same time retain all the settings.

Do I buy an Upgrade version of XP or do I need the Full Version to make this copy LEGAL ??

I know in the past if one had an illegal version of XP they could buy a key from M$. But since Vista is the OS they are selling now, I'm not sure they would sell you a legal copy of XP any more.

Upgrades are if you are migrating from an older OS to the newer one. You would need to buy the full version...unless of course you had '98, 2000, etc.

Roger that. I'll check with M$'s website.

The other poster said I need the FULL Version.

Is there a way for a Home user to buy (1) License to cover a few (3) personal PCs ??? Or is it necessary to buy (3) seperate Licenses ???

They sell multi-licenses. Again, you'll have to check with MS.
