Upgrading a S478 CPU

You will get a better performance out of the 2.4 ghz but unfortunatly i'm not sure about HP locking the core speed at 1.6GHZ.

There is another easier way to boost performace and that is by adding more RAM. How much ram do you have?

ah, you know what, thanks for the help, but I just oughta look to buying a new setup or something, thanks for the help anyway, this is starting to be too much trouble, I've done hours of research at the expense of studying for macroeconomics

It will work. The CPU won't operate at top speed due to the FSB limitaion, but it will work.

You won't have to reinstall or anything, as the CPU will only increase speed, not change the basic configuration that Windows looks at.

Your PSU should be fine, as the doesn't use much juice at all.

RAM would help, this is true.
