For the Zune you actually have to open regedit.exe and make some changes for the zune to be shown in my computer.. then you can only write/read from it when you are syncing.

Maybe you can do this with the ipod?

it's aonther hdd in disc mode. to see music in regular mode, you have to check show hidden folders and files in folder option
