Ram Upgrade?

I went to my local computer store and asked how much it would cost to get ram for my gateway computer. They said that it would cost about $70 because it is a gateway computer and have to order it from a special or somthing. Is this true or can I just go and buy a premium ram like kingston ram from newegg and use that in my gateway computer?

They are just trying to coax you into buying the stuff that has been like "tested and optimized for HP and Compaq" ****

However HP makes NO parts that would possibly effect what type of ram you need to use inside of their computers anyway so it's just BS.

Ram has went down so much online lately...you can get 512 of DDR-400 for like 35 bucks and a gig for 65. The worst part is that DDR2 ram is now actually cheaper than DDR1 ram as they have stopped making most of it.
