whats this port for??

i have an matx mobo so i have one pci-e slot and two standard pci slots but what really annoys me is this stupid little port. heres a picture of a similiar one (this isnt my mobo)

all i want to know is what this waste of a port is for and what does it do?

honestly i could have had 3 pci slots if that little blighter wasnt there

That slot is either a PCI-e x1 or x4 slot. It is used for some graphic cards, sound cards, raid adaptors, network cards, and other types of cards. Anyway, you don't have to worry about it, because it's not commonly used.
