im building a computer within the next 3-4 months long time from now but im guessing cpus im my price range will still be dominated by the C2D's so my question is if i was to build a computer specs

ram-2gs
Video card-8800gts or AMD r600 series price equivalent
good mobo
and raid 0 setup.

would i really benifit significantly from the 320 dollar e6600 or would the e6300 do just fine and save me 150 dollars which could go into a better video card

The performance difference gaming wise isn't very signifigant, probably not worth the extra money. Especially if you overclock your e6300. Your money would be better spent in an upgrade to say.. an 8800gtx. You'd have better FPSs in games, and such.

the performance diff isn't that much, but if u wana use the stock intel cooler u can get better oc's on e6400, my friend got it to 3.1 ghz stable with that hsf, u might wanna spend the e6600 cash on say a dx 10 card

The E6300 can OC past the speeds of the X6800 on stock cooling. I have my E6300 running @ 3.22ghz with an Arctic Freezer Pro 7.

Even at stock speeds though these chips are incredibly fast so don't worry about it. You will see way better performance by spending the 130 bucks on a better video card...much better performance.

Just so you know, the processor market will be very different 3-4 months from one. For one, the new AMD chip, Barcelona should be out and they're promising that it'll be good. Also, the e6300's and e6600's won't be sold. Here are the new Core 2 Duos that should be coming out right at the beginning of 2H 2007.

For $266, you can get a quad core (same thing as E6600 except 4 cores and double the L2) or a 1333FSB E6850.

Got anymore info on that Q6600? Last time I heard they were only suppose to drop to 400-530 price range.

The Q6600's drop to $530 in the April price cut. I was talking about the 2nd half price cut that should be sometime around August-September I would assume.

Here is another source with a more complete chart that has both price drops: Intel Price Roadmap analyzed
