So I'm trying to reformat an old computer so I can sell it, and it's not reading the floppy (that I need for the boot disk). Somehow the letter must have been changed from A:\ to something else, since it seems fine in Device Manager. When I boot up, it doesn't check the floppy at all, although the BIOS is set to check it.

So I need to know how to go about finding the floppy so that I can access it.

A similar thing happened with the Cd rom- it went from D:\ to F:\, inexplicably.

Any ideas?

Hmm....I found a small cable that led to the power supply and plugged it in to some open prongs at the back of the floppy, then the computer shut off automatically. When I booted it up again, it still doesn't read the floppy (although the little green light is on).

If the light is always on that usually means that the cable is pluged in the wrong way.

Aha. That would mean that the little cable I found and plugged in was the wrong one. But that's the only free one that I see that goes to the power supply. The floppy is supposed to have more than just the one (data) cable, right?
