I'm looking to build my own computer. I'm trying to find the best motherboard to do it. Here is what I think I want. Could you please give me suggestions based on what I have.

Asus (not sure what type)
800 FSB
8 IDE Devices (2-3 HDD, 3-5 ODD)
P4 Compatability

Other things on my computer:

-Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz 800MHz 512K Retail

-Kingston 512MB PC3200 400MHz DDR Non-ECC

-Chaintech AFX20 nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128MB DDR, DVI, TV-Out, 8X AGP Retail Box

-WD Caviar WD2500JB 250GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache Ultra ATA/100 EIDE Hard Drive OEM

I'm looking for a inexpensive computer that will play almost any game out there. Thanks for your help.

the fx-5200, fx-5600, ATI 9200s, and ATI 9600se or le are not worth it. I do understand if you are on a tight budget and in that case would get the 5600xt or the ATI radeon 9600 pro with 256mb memory

Ok...I talked to a friend of mine and he said to go with:

+Asus MoBo
-nVidia chipset
-AMD Processer

+nVidia video card
-128MB (256 isn't in my budget)

I also decided to get 1GB of Kingston RAM (dual-channel)

What i would like to know is:
-The best board (nVidia chipset P4 or AMD)
-The best 128 video card(preferably nVidia)
-Any other suggestions.

Thanks,
-Aaron

if ur on a buget why are u goin for p4? i would go for a xp2800 if u want that speed which will play games better than that p4. u can get a nForce2 chipset on mobo i recomend msi as ive had no problems and they are cheap but asus are very gud aswel. i agree with andrew about the graphics if u can afford get the 9600xt the sapphire one is very gud.

u could get the retail with the rubbish heat sink or just buy the oem one without and get a better cooler and it would still be cheaper than the p4.

also with this havin dual channel ram is not as important as it only gives u 5% better performace so u could save and spend on graphics

ok i've done some research and i completely changed my config...

-AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "Barton", 400 FSB, 512K Cache Processor - OEM
-Cooler Master - COOLER MASTER ACB-V83 JET7 SOCKET-A (It looks cool)
-A7N8X-E Deluxe - Retail
-Kingston ValueRAM Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail
-Not sure on HD prolly 160GB IDE
-I'm also looking for the best video card for under 200 I've been looking around and every one says the 9800xt for like 300 but that is to much for me...i'd be happy with 128MB but would get 256MB if its under 200 dollars
-I'm also going to get some heat sinks and spreaders for performance but more for looks.

Let me know how this looks.

I think i'm going to go with nVidia for my video card...

Chaintech Nvidia card 5700LE 256MB ($125)

It was recommended by two of my co-workers who are both computer techs.

How does it look now?
