this may sound a little farfetched but is there software that allows you to network 2+ computers over an internet connection, i dont just mean remote control i mean file printer sharing and/or similar?

Yes it's possible,you can do by creating a VPN.I think Windows has a built-in function that allows users to create a VPN.
