I'm new here, looking to get some advice/thoughts/input on a build I have been putting together. I've never done this before (my current computer is 7 yrs old or so) and have decided to take a base model XPS 410 and add to it. I don't necessarily do any hardcore gaming, but I want something that will perform well for what I do play (Oblivion, Guild Wars, HOM&M V, Civ) and hopefully has some staying power. I will not be overclocking. I'd like to keep the price around $2,000, although I am open to suggestions if the added cost would have a large impact.
Here's what I am looking at so far:

Pre-built:
XPS 410 case, mobo (P965 BTX), power supply (375W)

Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.40 GHz 4MB shared L2 cache)

Vista Home Premium OS

320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache

16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW)

13 in 1 Media Card Reader and 3.5 in Floppy Drive

(I would be removing the memory and vc that are included and adding to my existing machine)

total is about $1100

Upgrades:
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB SUPERCLOCKED video card

Creative Sound Blaster x-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card

Logitech x-230 32 watt 2.1 speakers

SYBA PCI 1394a firewire card
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16815124003

total again is about $1100 for a grand total of $2200.

The main questions I have right now:
Do I have enough of a power supply?
Any problems with the 800 (PC2 6400) memory?
Performance of the moniter?

Any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome, thanks.

Don't buy the prebuilt at all. Build it. It will be Better.
E6400
ASUS Striker
G Skill 2 GB DDR2 800
Corsair HX620
Plextor 16X DVD RW
8800GTX 640MB
Some Large Case

You can keep everything else you wanted. Though Others will no doubt suggest changes.

If you can afford the E6600 then i say go for that, its a great processor as stock and will kill any top games out right now!

theres a 640mb version of the 8800GTX? isnt that the GTS?Or you mean the GTX?

haha sorry had to :)

My reason for getting the prebuilt machine is due to my lack of experience building computers. I've only ever added RAM and a video card to my current machine. Just don't want to get in over my head with my choice and installation of mobo and power supply, cooling, etc.

Its not hard, we are here to help you. Youve opened cases before, added RAM and connected things. Its not much harder than that.

Trust us, you will not regret it..

jcole023 Build it. They talked me into it, and I learned alot, and I love my pc.

I will only build from now on.
