Ok ok ok ok, how's this:

MSI 965 Neo F - $129 (OR Gigabyte 965P-S3 - $155... any better?)
Intel E6300 - $261
2.0GB of Generic DDR2 RAM - $168
Samsung 8M IDE 250G - $86 (or should I go SATA?)
Geforce 7900GS - $254
Sound Blaster Audigy Value - $50

all in a SHAW 550w Tornado - $39

Total: $985 AU

Any adjustments?

P.S. WHICH by the way is an alternative to the original idea of:

ASUS M2V-TVM - $75
AM2 (Dual Core) 4200+ - $218
Samsung 8M IDE 250G - $86
2.0GB of Generic DDR2 RAM - $168
Geforce 7900GS - $254
Sound Blaster Audigy Value - $50

all in a SHAW 550w Tornado - $39

Total: $890 AU...

... $97 cheaper

i thought the Caviar SE had faster access times than the Barracuda?

keep in mind to check prices with staticice.com.au seeing as you live in Australia. what motherboard are you currently using, are you sure it's not Core 2 compatible? you could probably ditch the Audigy to save a few bucks. onboard sound these days is pretty decent. as a side note, you should always use a good PSU if you can afford it. remember the PSU supports the whole system and can take the whole system with it if it fails.

access time on the caviar is 8.6 barracuda is 8.2ms not much in it but the warranty is also great with the barracuda. i got those figures from an online retailer so they may not be right although they should be

go for the C2D system. it will be faster and future proof. AMD is coming up with a new socket very soon. so it's not worth investing on an AMD system right now.

Hey guys, I got the E6300 and it works a treat :) Thanks for all of your helps! Cheers
