Video card bang for the buck

I'm looking at buying a Geforce 8800 GTS buy EVGA. There's quite a jump between the one with 320 MB of ram and 640, ect,ect. About $100 + per card. Is it worth it?? Is hte 320 good enough?

If it were me, I'd wait for R600.

I'm not necessarily saying you should get an R600, but prices will come down once they're out.

Also, I hope you're planning to upgrade your motherboard. 8800's don't fit in AGP slots.

yeah, I'm biulding a new machine. If you wait, prices always come down, better stuff always is coming out, you're always out of date.

320mb is plenty enough as long as you don't game at anything higher than 1600x1200

BUT, R600 is scheduled to come out in a couple weeks, id think waiting at least that long could be worth it...

yeah. I could understand if you didn't want to wait if it were several months away. but R600 is only a couple of weeks away.

ok. What's R600? Sounds like an ATI card??

Yep, their DX10 card. If nothing else, it would drive the Nvidia cards prices down. But, if you want the best, it may be the way to go, time will be the true teller of that.

I think I'm just going to go with it now. If the prices drop a good bit, I'll just go SLI and buy another.
